Hévíz with its 4800 inhabitants is Hungary's most important spa resort,
6km from Western-Balaton. The town's success is based on the 4,44ha
large, the world's biggest warm-water lake surrounded by a 50ha big
protective forest. The water warmed up by the so-calledgeometric energy
is in summer 30-35 Celsius and it does not go below 26celsius in winter.
Because of the geographical situation the region has very few windy
days.
The
average temperature is up to 11.2Celsius, the sunshine is given for
1940 hours yearly and the climate is very Mediterranean-like. 30% of
the town inhabits parks and green places. Most of the visitors arrive
here to have revitalization. The thermal water is first and foremost
used and suitable for locomotor diseases. The streets, squares and other
places in town are well looked-after and nice to look at. The people
living in Hévíz like real local patriots pay attention to order, cleanliness

town tries to revive its cultural traditions by operating Hévíz Galéria where
you willfind an exhibition hall that is open throughout the whole year and the
atrium with its glass ceiling welcomes various cultural and entertaining programs
from May to October. Among their programs you may find the yearly Wine- and the
yearly Beer Festival, two of the most important ones. The town's library is also
here. Above the town's Fontana movie, there are many exhibition halls inviting
museum-goers to many exhibitions all year through. The Gymnasium next to the local
primary schools open to sports people in all seasons. It is also suitable to every
international events as well. Hévíz supports many, high-ranking sport clubs as
their matches, plays also invite many sport fans.
It is not advisable to have
a bath in the lake for a longer period, but in the severalswimming pools of different
hotels you can enjoy a swim. For those who look in for tennis there are a lot
of possibilities, as well. You may explore Hévíz' sights on a ride by bike, too.
But even those on foot must visit the stone church in Egregy from probably the
13. Century. On the outer wall of the so-called 'winter bath' you will find the
Hévíz Pantheon dedicated to the most brilliant people who either visited or once
inhabited the small town. Having entered the building you will have a look at
the Jupiter altar stone from the Roman Times. Walking in and around Hévíz we can
find many statues.
In the centre and near the lake you will see many buildings
that bear the name 'villa/ház' and they all have their own story of life.
